From my grandmother's garden with night-blooming cactus in St. Lucia to my childhood urban plot in Brooklyn, I don't remember a time in my life when I was without flowers. Growing beautiful things is a proud part of my legacy. I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by women for whom respecting and treading lightly on the land was a way of life. Armed with the knowledge gifted to me by these women over the years, I set out into adulthood doing the same.
When I was planning my wedding, I couldn't find a single local grower to utilize for my flowers. I was surprised because the Tidewater region has such a rich agricultural history. I was saddened but moved on, continuing to grow flowers for my own use. Then, I grew dahlias. With an amazing range of colors, sizes and styles, dahlias captivated me in a way that few flowers had before. I grew enough to share with friends and neighbors and soon realized that I could become that local grower I had looked for. The result is natural, beautiful flowers handled from seed to vase by me to share with you and those you care about.
