Why buy local flowers?

Supporting Mermaid City Flowers means that from start to finish, your flowers were cared for and nurtured, pesticide free, directly by us in the community where you live. We are able to provide greater variety of seasonal blooms than may be available through other sources and can make choices that ensure the health of the ecosystem in addition to that of your cut flowers.

Buying fresh flowers from us helps to support a small Black woman owned business, a family, and the American Grown flower industry which, sadly, only accounts for about 20% of the floral market in the United States. Our gardens, scattered throughout our Norfolk neighborhood, support a variety of important pollinators, including monarch butterflies. The main garden is a certified wildlife habitat and monarch waystation. I’m proud to be the founder of both the Tidewater Flower Collective and Black Flower Farmers, organizations which work to support local specialty cut flower farmers.
